Can anyone tell me if I can do anything to keep my swan plants alive over winter.
I planted a bit late and would like them to be big and healthy for spring.
    Ta Dave.

Hi Dave – a lot depends on where you live. Here in Auckland we don’t do anything much special. If you mulch around them that will keep the soil warmer. Don’t apply the mulch up close to the stem, though, especially if it is fresh (like grass clippings) as that will possibly burn the plant.

A frost here is a rarity, never lasts for long.

I think frosts do them in. Mine survive well over the winter … Welly never gets terribly hot but its rare to get below zero in the winter at least. I’ll keep my seedlings in the hothouse over winter or in my sheltered butterfly shade house. So if you can protect them from frosts and keep them sheltered they should make it.
