This season has had its ups & downs. It started early in October 2018 & ended in June 2019 with the last Monarch eclosing successfully in mid-June

January & February were dismal with few cats & eggs, although I was prepared with many big swan plants. Fortunately I collected a couple of dozen large cats from Bunnings Garden Centre, then was given dozens more from someone who had been eaten out of house & home!
Final result: Have just tallied up the number of Monarchs I have released; 280.

A small caterpillar seen here in Hamilton – it will have to take its chances as I have discovered that very late ones just don’t do well
