Have had a Monarch emerge in my shade house today. If I release it, will it survive the present cold temperatures?

I had my last one emerge yesterday, a big healthy male. Weather is bitter here today and dire for the next few days so he will be in a butterfly castle in the laundry till later in the week.

It is suggested that you take it outdoors between 11am and 2pm – usually the warmest times of the day – and leave it on a plant where it is out of the wind and any sun will shine on its wings.

It is bound to fly away at some point during the day.

Hopefully it will survive. I released one Monarch this morning. moist air but not very cold in Auckland. Monarchs try to get together in a sheltered place in trees out of the wind and hibernate on cold days.
