19 May 2018 – We have a number of chrysalis that do not seem to be developing, will they over winter on our plants?

Sadly I am noticing more deformed butterflies (if they manage to eclose) at the moment. Happily 90% are ok but certainly the whole life cycle is delayed. Of those who fly away happily I would say half of them are much smaller than normal.

    Hi Jacjui
    Thanks for your reply.
We are in Cambridge – they look a bit small, so I guess we just have to wait and see what happens.

You don’t say where you are, Ray. I’m in Auckland and still have a lot of pupae (chrysalises). Everything slows down and more are affected by diseases, pathogens etc at this time of the year, but don’t give up on them! Some will survive and the butterflies will fly away before the worst winter weather arrives.
