Received this pest sighting report from Lower Hutt in this morning:

Caught a Hedgehog eating the low hanging chrysalises in our front garden last night, promptly removed it off the property.

    Beware of hedgehogs!

I too have seen hedgehogs eating chrysalis. They seem to love them and appear unaffected by any toxins present. Hedgehogs will eat anything containing protein including baby birds and mice.

So they are not affected by the chemicals in the caterpillar/chrysalis, or would they ‘try’ the chrysalis, and then spit it out, do you think?
