Frangipani and Monarchs

    You might see a Monarch butterfly laying eggs on a frangipani (Plumeria sp.)

    Both milkweed and frangipani are in the dogbane family, Apocynaceae. So they most probably smell pretty similar. However, when the caterpillars emerge from the egg they will not survive – unless they can find a milkweed plant very close by.

    Ahhh good to see this as have just watched that very thing happen ! Will wait till the cats hatch and transfer to milkweed
