I have sometimes found chrysalides hanging from dried out leaves & in danger of falling off. I get a straw & bend it at the concertina part, Then I make a loop of thread & slip it over the concertina & pull it tight to anchor it. I make 2 small nicks in the short end of the straw; this is to anchor the thread when I have finished. I place the leaf or whatever the chrysalid is on along the short end of the straw & wind the thread carefully along, catching the leaf, then when I get to the end of the straw I catch the end of the thread in the notches to secure it. Then stand the straw in a jar so that the chrysalid hangs safely.
You can even re-use the straw; simply snip the loop & the whole thing will slide off
