    Hi there,

We have raised monarchs for the first time this year. All 6 of our caterpillars are currently in their crystallises.

I have just found out about tagging, which we are really keen to try.

However the website says that we can’t order any 2018 season tags until February, and our butterflies will hopefully be well on their way by then.

Does anyone know if we able to obtain any of the 2017 tags for these guys, so we can tag them appropriately, and follow where they end up?

    Thanks,
    Rachel

Hi Rachel. If you let others know what area you live in there may be others in that area who are also breeding monarchs and may have swan plants for the next breeding round. Cheers Hugh

Thanks Jacqui! That makes sense. Yes, we will definitely register for the later season butterflies.

    Hello Rachel

There is no point in tagging these because it is the overwintering generation that we want to find out more about The monarchs that you release this month will no doubt reproduce and be dead before the winter comes They will probably stick around your garden although the females might travel further looking for new milkweed on which to lay their eggs

Do hope that you will register with us into the next generation in February
