The Moths and Butterflies of NZ Trust has submitted an Expression of Interest to the NEXT Foundation which will soon be backing large, transformational projects promoting and exemplifying environmental and educational excellence.

“We are very excited about this opportunity to make a giant leap in our environmental education work,” said Rebecca Bibby, our Chair. “This will have a huge benefit for future generations of New Zealanders.”

The NEXT Foundation’s Chairman Chris Liddell said that they had received 280 Expressions of Interest totalling more than $1.8 billion, split evenly between the areas of environment and education. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to submit a detailed Request for Proposal with a final decision to be announced in December 2014.

The MBNZT has been supported in its application by connections from a wide range of New Zealand and international organisations working in the fields of conservation and education, such as Lincoln University, The University of Auckland, Landcare Research.

“There are few organisations working in the conservation of invertebrates,” continued Rebecca, “and butterflies of course are a species ideally suited as a hands-on resource for primary schools.”
