If anyone would like nettles to encourage The Admiral Butterflies I have plenty to be dug up for transplanting. This variety once established can spread easily so keep this in mind. Urtica dioica has been hosting yellow admiral cats at ours. Torbay pickup in Auckland .Ring Maureen on 09 4733554.

    Thanks Jacqui,
I will give you a call.
We have our nettle plant in our Gardening Club area but behind a little fence
so the children can see but not touch.

    Hi Jillian

Give me a ring in a month. I might have some caterpillars I can share with you. Hopefully the resulting progeny will help set you up with a resident population.

I have had a nettle plant for a couple of years now but no sign of any caterpillars. Do you know of a way I can help an Admiral butterfly find it?

Great to hear, Maureen! Saw my first yellow a few days ago. They’re back!

You probably know that nettles are great in the compost bin – helps your compost decompose, just like comfrey does.
