marks left on wings after tagging

    we have noticed over the last week when we tag a butterfly and press the tag on when they open their wings you can se where we have pressed it slightly discolours there wings any ideas?

    no jaqui just how described on your a nice press with thumb and big finger all the ones we tagged in march and first week of april never so any probs so yea not sure what is going on cheers rob

    Rob, are you using a scissor grip – I find this puts less pressure on any particular part of the wing. (Once, we would have described this as “how you hold a cigarette” but it’s not PC to see that any more.)

    our butterflies are always well dry the first we tagged this arvo hatched last nite the other was about 4hrs old we havent noticed this before

    Rob, The tag will only leave a mark when you have tagged the butterfly before the wings are completely dry. Caryl (Wellington)
