I have quite a few butterflies around my property at the moment. Ive noticed several times in the last few weeks individual monarchs being seriously harrassed by a pair of magpie moths. They are very persistent and will follow the butterfly for some distance following every loop or dive. does any one know the significance of this behaviour?

Hello Malsalf – I would guess that the “magpie moths” are actually Admirals (about the same size) as we know that Admirals do hassle Monarchs, trying to drive them away from the best nectar flowers and “their territory”. I’ve never heard of this happening with Magpie Moths, but you could be witnessing something “new” to me of course.
