Hi. I grew some swan plants from seeds that I got from Oderings. They were 2 different varieties. Both have come up lovely and bushy but the caterpillars wont eat them!! They have nearly stripped the plants I bought from Mitre 10 to get us started but just sit on the new ones not eating. They have been out there for 2 days now and not a nibble! They do look slightly different to the plants I bought from Mitre 10. One has skinny leaves. Not sure what to do!!!!

Hi Angel – keep them well-watered and grow them on. They may have a different toxicity to the ones that the caterpillars are used to. Don’t try and force them to eat anything… you might find that later in the season the caterpillars go for these “different” plants or a monarch may well lay on them later.

    Cheers
