The Monarch Butterfly New Zealand Trust has designed a course for would-be butterfly gardeners which will be conducted on-line. Those who register will receive by email, each week for five weeks, information about creating a butterfly garden. At the end of each week there will be a test which can be completed and returned to us by mail. Those who complete the five tests successfully will be mailed a certificate.

Typical butterfly
Understanding metamorphosis (life cycle)
Identification of the different parts of a caterpillar and butterfly
Different species which can be encouraged in a NZ garden
Week 2:
Garden design to encourage butterflies and moths
Making the best use of the space you have available
Week 3:
Host plants
Week 4:
Nectar plants
Week 5:
Challenges – pests, predators, diseases
The cost for the course is NZ $25 for MBNZT Financial Members and NZ $35 for non-members (but the latter includes an email membership). While the course is designed for a New Zealand audience, it will still be good value if you live outside the country. Payment can be made by Paypal, US$30
