Announcing an exciting new initiative for 2012:
The MBNZT will be working closely with the NZ Association of Primary Science Educators on the tagging project.
We hope that every school in the country will be made aware of our tagging project and the value of Monarchs as an educational resource. We also hope that every school will be given the opportunity to tag Monarch butterflies.
This initiative has already received the support of Bayer Group. Bayer is an international, research-based group with major businesses in health care, nutrition and high-tech materials. Bayer : Science for a Better Life. Bayer have funded new bannerstands as educational resources.
Yates New Zealand have provided those who are interested in tagging Monarch butterflies this year with an opportunity to practise their skill before they tag real, live Monarch butterflies. You will also be able to go into a contest to win $100 worth of Yates gardening products (there will be two draws).
To receive practise tags:
1. Register for tagging, and
2. Request tags writing in the Comments section “practise tags please”. Tell us how many children you are working with.
NOTE You will then need to send in an additional request for legitimate tags to tag this season’s (2012) butterflies. They are a complete different series and the two must not be confused.
