Don’t forget, to request tags for this year, if you're logged in you request tags here:

    http://www.monarch.org.nz/monarch/wp-admin/admin.php?page=tag-request

This year the MBNZT is working with the NZ Association of Primary Science Educators on tagging. Together we are giving it a real push in schools. See more here:

    http://www.nzase.org.nz/primaryscience/index.php

This will also increase the awareness of tagging in your area – and more likelihood of people finding your tagged butterflies.

Schools (etc) will be issued with practice tags and paper butterflies. You can also request practice tags and paper butterflies (sponsored by Yates) by logging in to the website and adding the comment "practice tags please, enough for xxx beginners".

    One tag per person please.

If you are available to demonstrate tagging in your area, please note the area where you're able to demonstrate here, and also your contact details. Make sure when talking with the schools that one of you has requested practice tags/paper butterflies. These should be limited to one tag/butterfly per person.

If you are a school looking for someone to come and demonstrate tagging, please list your requirements here - contact details, how many students etc. Remember that all of our members are volunteers, and many of them will be taking time off work to visit you, so please be as flexible as possible.

    Hi Jacqui,

Happy to help out with tagging demonstrations in the Waitakere area (West Auckland) and you can contact me on westaucklandflutterbyes@gmail.com
Jacqui I can only do a Friday as I am not willing to take time off work to visit schools and this is my only weekday off work:)

    Thanks

    Hi there,

I've never tagged before, but I'm sure I could learn quite easily. I'm in Central Nelson and would be happy to help at schools in the area.

I'm not available on Tuesday or Friday mornings, but itherwise flexible.

    Hi Jacqui,

I am happy to be available to demonstrate tagging to schools in the Bay of Islands area. I can be reasonably flexible with my work commitments, but would prefer a Monday or Friday.

    Cheers,

Is there anyone in Whangarei who would demonstrate tagging?

The children and Jillian (teacher) were a pleasure to visit. They were all very keen to get started with the tagging.
I demonstrated first how to tag a paper butterfly and then we went on to use the Yates coloured paper Monarchs.

A few of the children managed to tag the butterflies fairly easily for 6 years old.

I do hope some of the Monarchs are spotted with the tags for the classroom, as this would make things exciting for them.

I forgot my camera as well;-( also a little hard to demonstrate tagging and take photos.

I took along a Lesser Wanderer and a couple of the Lesser Wanderer caterpillars for the children to see as well.
