very little activity except for the cluster on the N,side of the tree. I think a few more have joined them - sunbathing.
Just flew through the garden
1 MONARCH good condition looking for food
Not much activity but more moving to the sunny side of the gum tree. Still tight clusters in the pohutukawa and shady side of gumtree. Two on ground, alive ,brought inside and put on warm floor - in 5 minutes they were fluttering at the window — flew away strongly circling back to their cluster.
About 100 or so fluttering about and settling on sunny branches of chamaecyparis, maple and poplar trees. As the sun went down they settled mainly on the chamaecyparis, and very many are still there, hanging with their wings folded.
Noticed the sticker on the butterflies wing on Swan plant. On approaching the butterfly would fly away but land again either on swan plant or nearby palnts - did this repeatedly and staying around for hours. Took a couple of good clear digital photos of Butterfly with tag
butterfly found dead, tagged under wing
The butterfly was lying on the grass looking like it was dying. Moving just a little bit.
Clusters half way up Pine type tree on south boundary of park
I just need to look out of a window to see butterflies
