Monarchs really enjoying the sun - feeding on Agonis and Tree dahlia..Its 2 pm but the sun has not reached the tight clusters in the pohutukawa and S side of gum tree..How long csn they survive without feeding ?Photos of the sensible ones in Agonis.feeding

The only butterflies that were active were those on the N. side of the gum tree. Those in the coldest area shifted yesterday to a slightly warmer position a few branches away. it is impossible to juge whether the numbers have changed much as those clustered in the Pohutukawa have a lot out of sight.

I have had over a hundred butterflys hatch, some I bought inside because we couldnt get rid of the wasps. Now I have 3 hatched today in my bathroom, and I hope to let them out tomorrow, weather permitting. Ive got several more pupa to hatch yet and Im worried with the cold weather

Only saw one monarch flying around, where previously clusters have been seen.
