Pregnant, South African,10 destroyed this past week,8 female 2 male + 5 egg sacs. N.Z.native mantis scarce.
Well the monarchs had not gone far. Neighbour noticed them sheltering among the branches of the willow and puiri trees during the recent rough weather. A Late butterfly laying eggs on my swan plants in my flower garden. Laid several eggs then flew off in a Northerly direction.
This is an over-wintering site that is just starting to build up in numbers
1 x male and 1 x female hatched yesterday and flew this morning
My friend has many swan plants and she gave me three chrysales which I have in the house. One emerged yesterday and another will today I think.Unfortunately one was damaged
We have sighted 4 tagged butterflies fluttering just outside our home garden in our paddock. They were feeding on dandilion flowers over the past couple of days. They may be butterflies we have released recently, not sure as could not see tagnumbers.
have a swan plant covered in caterpillers. first butterfly has emerged
The main cluster seems bigger and there are still at least 4 other groups on the same big tree. I think they may be starting to use the Pohutukawa adjacent to the gum but once they fold their wings they are invisible on it.Will check it tomorrow in the sun.
