Butterflies arrived in early spring and laid eggs on our 6 mature Swan plants. We planted these last year and they had miraculously coped with a cycle of monarchs. This time there were so many eggs laid that the caterpillars stripped the trees. Butterflies have been hatching everyday for the past 2 weeks and have laid fresh eggs on the poor denuded trees! I haven’t found new plants to plant as the local garden centre’s plants had been stripped. I’m about to pot up some self sown seedlings and hide them until they are big enough to cope with being eaten!
