Wednesday, August 31st, 2005Single butterfly trapped in a spiders web. It was released and eventaully flew of but as it’s colouring was rather dull I suspect that it was at the tail end of it’s lifespan

Single butterfly trapped in a spiders web. It was released and eventaully flew of but as it’s colouring was rather dull I suspect that it was at the tail end of it’s lifespan
flying through our garden trees and on to neighbouring properties, southward.
ALTON ST.,11.40a.m.2/3 .Across the road from the Queens Gardens.
4 sightings within approx 100 yard radius .2 seen
flying at a distance from the feed ing grounds. 6,4,& 2 on trees near each
other.
HARDY ST.,320B Old Manse [of St.Johns] now Presbyterian Support Centre]
8 ,approx 11.17a.m. Just a 2 minute walk from the Queens Gardens.

Still same spot 11.45a.m.when ! other,away
from feeding ground, seen to alight on a young white Magnolia shrub & sunned
itself .Not feeding,.but seemed to have been attracted to the plant by the
colour of the outer protective covering of the young buds.A light Monarch
orange,They do not appear to be interested in other orange plants in the
gardens.

One monarch on the last two days
Today I was sitting in my garden from 10am to about 1115am and I counted at least 9 flying in and around my Japanese designed garden it seems that the breeding season has begun. it was great to see them.
